Very good service!

There were 4 of us in the party. It began quite well, the starters were tasty though they could have been hotter. Then the mains! Three of us ordered beef, one Turkey. The beef did not look very appetising and it proved impossible to cut let alone eat. The turkey was cold and looked as if it had been sliced hours previously. Obviously we complained, the waitress was very apologetic but it wasn’t her fault. The meals were replaced , they were only marginally better. One of the party complained to the manager who offered us free desserts and coffee. To add insult to injury when the apple pie arrived the custard had a skin on the top! No wonder the restaurant was almost empty, word had spread!

We visited the bar today with some friends for drinks and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. When we asked for a drink menu at the downstairs bar, the staff member at the till left without explanation and didn’t return. We then approached another staff member next to him, who seemed confused when we asked about available drinks. She told us she didn’t serve cocktails—despite clearly having alcohol bottles behind her and having just made a cocktail for the customer before us. Instead, she directed us upstairs for service. At the upstairs bar, we waited a considerable amount of time before anyone appeared, and once again, there was no drink menu available. Eventually, we were able to order and sit outside. While seated, we overheard staff making an inappropriate comment—“can you smell the curry today”—which, as South Asian guests, we found offensive and racially insensitive. Overall, the service was poor, and the experience left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Based on how we were treated, I would not recommend this venue, especially to people of colour, as it appears that not all guests are treated equally.

The Good: Reception: Friendly and helpful staff on arrival. Pool: Big, could swim a decent length. Sauna and pool included in the price of the stay (not always the case at other places) Sauna both spacious and hot (how they should be) Dinner in the casual "Cellars Bar" area: Chicken chorizo starter, ribs main - both delicious. The Bad: On arrival: our room entry door was unlocked (the door does not shut properly unless you pull it firmly) - Bathroom door was also stiff. No shower gel or lotion in room - had to ask. Tea but no coffee in room on arrival - had to ask. On the second day, biscuits were not replaced. Doors throughout the hotel bang loud (no cushioning) - when in room you can hear people banging doors, shouting, showering etc. Pool - your own padlock is required for the changing room lockers (leisure staff in shop said we should have been told about this in advance and that the alternative was to leave bag with them at desk or take into pool area. Changing rooms were to a poor standard, in need of freshen up and repair, some showers not working, discarded shower bottles and drinking water bottles on floor, general cleanliness and maintenance could be improved. No pool attendant present in pool area (health and safety?). People hogging the jacuzzi, black bits floating in water. Vault 52 Cocktail bar unable to do an Irish Coffee... but then overcharged us for two Espresso Martinis by £6.00 - (£13.50 instead of £10.50 each) when pointed out to staff member he advised the price on all the menus was wrong and that the till was entering the correct (higher) price. Explained to staff member that this was not acceptable, that we should only be charged the price shown on the cocktail menus and that we wanted a refund. Staff member said he can't issue a refund but went off to talk to manager - came back offering another free cocktail instead which we did not want - he then decided to offer a refund - came back with paperwork for us to fill out and told us to wait about a week....! Wonder how many people have been unknowingly charged the wrong price without noticing and when the 'correct' price will be updated on the menus?!? Will we get our £6.00 back? Disappointing - great potential but has a neglected feel - nothing that couldn't be resolved with a freshen up and a bit more care.

Tired and scruffy rooms. Restaurant very poor quality and over cooked. Staff generally good, just a shame for them that they have to work here.
